NillThis place was as charming as I thought it'd be! Short version: The staff was INCREDIBLE! The room was what we needed, and I'm certain the property will only get better. Long version: My family and I were traveling back to the Willamette Valley from a trip to Phoenix when I first found The Silver Spur on Google. We weren't sure if we were going to stop or push through, so I was looking for options. While clearly an old-school motel, it looked cute, was priced very competitively, is pet friendly, AND they have rooms to fit my family of five (and the 20lb puppy we were traveling for). We came into some snow just before Burns around 10:00PM and decided to stop for the night. Rolling in so late, we were worried it was closed, but pressing the button brought out our extremely helpful manager who lives on the property. He got us our room and we all quickly filed in. The room was basically what I expected for an older, smaller motel. Two queen beds and a twin, TV, mini fridge, bathroom, heat/AC, and all linens. (But I learned more!) We had some troubles getting our heat working, so I went to ask about it. It wasn't freezing, but it was chilly, so I buzzed the door. He promptly came out again and as I explained our plight, he was confused as there had been people in the room two nights prior with no complaint. I told him it wasn't too bad and that extra blankets would suffice. He said he would provide a space heater. I followed his direction to go around the corner and he exited through his apartment to the next room that was being used for storage. He grabbed me a brand new heater and wanted to help me take it to our room. I assured him that I could manage (also not wanting to trouble more), and popped it up to the room. Husband unboxed it while I took the puppy outside and while I was out there, I saw the manager coming out again. He asked if we'd still like extra blankets which I accepted because I'm nothing if not a comfy lover. He went into the laundry area and brought out two more for us, the super soft ones but they also are somehow puffy? The best... He handed them to me and said they were brand new, just out of the package. He then excused himself to go under the motel to check the breakers and see if that's why our heat wasn't working. He came back a minute later saying it should be fixed (it was). We then talked for a few minutes about the motel. He told me it's under new ownership, and that he had only been there since early October. He explained how they're slowly working on improving many aspects of the property, and how it had been in pretty rough shape. I learned the motel was built in the 50s and much was still the same. Management has many items on their to-do list, but I can't see this place going anywhere but up. A huge thank you to the gentleman that helped us. I didn't catch your name, but it was nice to speak with you and learn more about a super cool old spot.

NillI really didn’t feel safe. I arrive at about 8:30 and the office door is locked… but I can see the attendant getting the office set up for a customer and then walk over to open the door. I was informed my door was unlocked and the key is inside the room. (I had prepaid $100.00 on Priceline in desperation as it was the cheapest hotel within 100mi from where I was at.) I walk into my room and while it appears clean, I could tell it needs some updating. I immediately notice the door does not have a deadbolt or even a chain lock. They only provide a commercial doorknob lock. These locks have a limited number of keys so this is a bonus for the owner who for instance might lose a key to room 100, but have two keys to room 205… but an unsafe situation for guests. The AC rattled away in the window in the back of the room. The carpet was lumpy. And while the bed was made, the comforter was bundled up in a ball in the closet. The bathroom window looked too small for an intruder… but it was unlocked. The need was soft and springy. There was no nightstand and my cpap placed on a chair next to the outlet by the bed. The walls and ceiling are thin and I was woken up by pounding footsteps between 4am and 6am when I finally got out of bed. The location is easy to get to. I didn’t have much interaction to rate service so I left it at 3. For $100 and even $75… I would pass on this hotel. $50 would a fair price for the condition on busy days and $35 would be a good starting price. But if I was a woman or had children with me, I wouldn’t even think of staying here.

★★Positive: Location-easy to find right off the highway. Negative: In very poor structual shape. Locked door--had to bang on window to get help to unlock door. Bathroom shower un-useable--big cracks in floor. walls and ceiling. No drapes--only see through net curtains--no privacy.

NillLooked clean enough, I guess, but very sketchy. The deadbolt didn't lock... there was no hole for it. Check-in is at 3pm, was there by 4, and no one was there, and no one was answering the phone number posted on the door. Another guest was there and had been trying to get checked since 3pm. They didn't show up until after 5. Didn't get into my room until after 5:30 because there were so many people trying to get checked in. We all had to wait in our cars or outside with temps in the 100s and it was super smoky out. They lady's weren't the nicest during check in, but when we were packing up and leaving, they were super nice.

NillIt seemed impossible to reach the hotel itself. The number was forwarded to an out of service non working number. We had to go through a booking agent, which later became a nightmare. When we arrived, no one was available to get the room. It took over 45 minutes to get a key. We would have gone elsewhere, however the booking agent had already charged my card, which I thought was odd. Never the less. The manager was argumentative and rude. The room was not up to par. (sleezy actually) We were afraid to take our shoes off, let alone sleep in the bed. That is just the beginning of our nightmare. The next morning my cc card I used to pay for the room, had over $1800 in charges pending from a truck stop in Reno NV. Of course I shut the card down and reported the fraudulent activity. Way to ruin a good trip Bottom line, pass on by, sleep in your car.. This is the worst place ever to stay. If you are looking for a nice, clean, and happy staff hotel, I recommend the Horseshoe Inn. It's a beautiful place and a lot less spendy. We stayed there on the way back home.

★Positive: Nothing! This hotel is NOT up to code, is NOT being remodeled, is NOT as described! We didn't stay. Referred hotel to proper health authorities. Staff is horrible. RUN DOWN! Negative: Everything! DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL! It is owned by OYO out of India and is no help in dispute resolution.

★First off, I knew this was a cheap hotel when I booked and I wasn't expecting a lot but I was supposed to stay 8 days. I got there and you have to call to get into the front office. The lady was sitting in the parking lot in her car with her dog. They overbooked (the front desk lady told me so) and gave me a room with a shower that was constantly running. I thought someone was in there at first and felt unsafe. I tried to turn the water off and then went to the front desk to get help. They said they knew about it and the maintainenece man had to tear into the wall so they left it running. They gave me a replacement room with a moldy shower and the front door didn't have a deadbolt and the regular knob didn't lock. The stairs felt like they were breaking under me, it smelled of mildew and dog everywhere, and the parking lot was full if vans that looked like people were living in them. The ladies upfront were nice during this but there was so much I felt I had to decline. I was still charged for a full day. Then 4 days later my replacement hotel was full of people who said that the Spur kicked everyone out of the second floor for repairs and left them in the lurch.

NillMotel is easy to find, right on HWY 20. The rooms were clean even if a bit rundown. Our bath/shower faucet was leaking when we arrived and couldn't be turned off. The overall place looked like it's in need of renovation. We arrived late but were accomodated with an easy phone call to the front desk the day before our arrival.
