★★★★My husband and I love adventure and love to be "out there" but are not big campers. Gennie and Kirk's place at the very end of the Nabesna road was perfect for us! We stayed in the one stand-alone room: one bedroom cottage with a private bath called "The Chalet" that was just perfect for us! It heated up in minutes, had a wonderfully hot shower, and had plenty of room for us to spread out inside. The common areas (large dining table downstairs where we ate our meals with the family and reading/game area with large balcony upstairs) are also great spaces to relax and spend time.||||Gennie cooked every meal, including breakfast made to order and dinners with homemade biscuits, moose, halibut, and more. There were cookies and cakes and bars around the clock! Kirk has spent his life in Nabesna and when we made a last-minute request for a flight-see after dinner he made the perfect guide. We intended to see this area once, but fell in love and are already planning our next visit. We truly felt like we were visiting family.||||There are a few local abandoned mines that are an easy walk and interesting to explore and some local trails as well. Almost like the McCarthy area but with no amenities. But then with a family like the Ellis family, we didn't need any extra amenities!

★★★★★We came back to Devil's Mountain Lodge for a second visit just last week. I cannot believe there are no other reviews since our visit two years ago! I guess it is just not well advertised. We spent about five days this time and were flown out to two different cabins in the park for three overnights. The solitude and scenery are impossible to describe. For anyone willing to drive to McCarthy, you should consider adding Nabesna to your list. Sure, there are more amenities in McCarthy but there are also more people and the frequent buzzing of bush planes taking off and landing. The Ellis family is really "it" on the Nabesna side, so when they drop you somewhere you can be sure you'll be alone.||||Kirk is incredibly knowledgeable about this massive area having grown up here since he was two years old, and we trusted him to put us in the right spot for us. Not sure if he is just THAT good or if there is no such thing as the wrong spot, but the locations he picked were just perfect!!||||Kirk's wife, Geannie (sorry if I'm misspelling that one!), his son Isaac, hunting guide Jesse and his wife Melissa and son Liam (a newly minted pilot himself!) round out the crew here. Dinners are hearty and home-cooked, baked goods amazing. Anyone looking for a special experience of a lifetime in the mountains would be crazy not to consider Nabesna.

★★★★★This is our third time back to visit the Ellis Family and they and the whole area never cease to amaze us. Their lifetime of knowledge about the area is so helpful when planning an adventure and their willingness and patience in sharing that knowledge to help fine tune our trip was so appreciated. With the Nabesna road conditions dicey and in flux they immediately offered to refund all of our money, and when we were able to get a charter out to them they coordinated everything with Copper Valley Air so that it was seamless. Seriously, someone has got to get the word out about how special this place and this family are!

★★★★★Devil's Mountain Lodge is located at the end of the road. The view of the mountains is spectacular and from there you can hike, go on a ride in Kirk's Piper Super Cub, or even be dropped off by Kirk at a National Park cabin or bring a tent. Everyone at the lodge will bend over backwards to meet your needs.

An exciting journey along the Nabesna Road with several river crossings. The lodge is run by a very friendly family. The rooms are simple but clean. The bathroom is outside and also clean. The main building has a living room, TV room, and a small dining room with a very homely feel. The food was also very good. Great for hiking, visiting the old gold mines, or taking a scenic flight over the glaciers.

Run by Kirk and Gennie Ellis, the accommodation has a very family-friendly feel, with everyone eating at the same table. The rooms are clean, but the toilet and shower are outside. But considering the road doesn't continue, it's still very nice, warm, and a good roof over your head.
