JKTDC Hotel Saraswati (Tourist Bungalow Katra)

I stayed at this hotel in Nov 2023 with family and had booked a standard room. Phone no. available on Google is not working. Location: First of all, at the time of writing this review, the location of this hotel on Google maps is incorrect. I have posted an edit and hopefully it should get fixed soon. This hotel is located at Ban Ganga road, opposite Shalimar garden. You should set Shalimar garden on map and you would reach this place. Yatra starting point is very close from this hotel so 5 stars for location. If you are asking for directions to this hotel do not forget to mention Hotel Saraswati of J&K Tourism. There is another hotel by the name hotel maa Sarswati nearby so don't get confused.

I stayed here for two days - (1) The location was bad . (2) Hotel is just like a Dharamshala , you get good hotels at this price range . (3) During rain water comes inside room and gives you a feeling of swimming pool . (4) Restaurant inside this is very costly compared with good restaurants near by (5) Hot water comes every time which is good . (6) Staff behaviour is supportive and nice . (7) My suggestion to JKTDC to consider the reviews and take suitable measures .

We stay while returning from bhairo dev mandir, it quite good in budget. Also booking in advance will be good . Washroom are quite ok.its at ardhkuwari.

We visited this place in November 2017, this is a quite peaceful location. There is a beautiful garden with lot of rides for kids, adjoined to this hotel. We took breakfast which was good and reasonable in price. Rooms are big, neat and clean. Staff is also very cooperative. You need to pay extra money while arriving after yatra, because of one way route. Overall this a nice place to stay with family and specially for kids.

The place is ok if you have to just fresh and lock your bags. Views are best from front and back. Facilities needs to improve. Cleanliness is 2 out of 5. Food not available. Only pick service provides. No drop services for back to station or anywhere.

Since this being pilgrimage site, most of the tourist are looking for both comfortable and value for money option with basic amenities. In Katra there are thousands of hotels starting from few hundred rupees going upto few thousands. But even after shelling couple of thousands rupees, one is not satisfied with the services of the hotels. Keeping this in mind in my opinion JKTDC options are better as in that price band no other private property is comparable. The rooms are sufficiently large and with excellent view. Bathrooms have geysers. There is also adjoining restaurant. Service too is prompt. ||Deluxe rooms has ACs in it.

We traveled in end Dec'16. Initially was a bit confused while making a booking. But, later on booked 5 Non AC rooms through JKTDC website for 3 nights. Only difference in AC & Non AC room is of room furnishing. Room Size and Washrooms are same in both options.||||When I reached Saraswati Hotel/JKTDC Tourist Bungalow. Rooms & attached washrooms were decent and better than what I expected. There is a Garden named Shalimar Garden next to the Hotel Saraswati which is an add on to this property. They have limited options in Their Restaurant but you will get homely food. ||||There are Ground + 2 Floor & there is no lift so better request for Ground Floor Rooms if you are travelling with elders. We requested at the time of booking and got the same. ||||Finally, I surely recommend others to book if availability is there.

Hotel Sarawati is one of the JKTDC establishment in Katra, it is next to the road leading to the Vaishnodevi temple. Your first glimpse of the temple from the balcony . Rooms are average , cleanliness is a concern area be it bathroom or blankets . But you get options of both ac it non ac rooms .If you are travelling with elders then it is a concern area as there is no lift . Electricity also goes quite often , food is average. Few staffs are ok overall it's quite laid down , there are many hotels around Katra so this hotel could be avoided. Some renovations were going on at that time so hopefully you might get some options but overall management , food quality is quite average . Few travel agents are just bang opposite to the hotel so if you would like to do sight seeing or like to travel to Kashmir or Amritsar you can avail cars from them. Market is near but not at walking distance , you need to take private or public transport . Restaurants around the hotel is also not up to mark .
