Brickyard Retreat at Mutianyu Great Wall

We were charmed by the beautiful setting of this renovated factory. It was an ideal break for autumn. I very much suggest it, and we can't wait to return! We had heard much about it, and it went above and beyond what we expected.||We stayed in the Chairman's Suite and enjoyed the stunning view of the Great Wall's through the large windows. Our room featured a comfortable Japanese soaking tub, a private courtyard, and a fireplace that we happily ignited. The small touches, like the eyeshades, helped make our stay memorable. The staff was very hospitable and accommodating, allowing us to extend our stay a bit longer due to our sleeping baby.||We had a wonderful dinner at one of the 3 restaurants with excellent food and a lovely merlot. The next morning, a delicious breakfast with homemade products and freshly squeezed orange juice was ready for us. In the daytime, we walked around the small village and discovered paths for future visits to the Great Wall.|

Beautiful architecture, with great service and amazing food. Hotel provided a free transport to and from the Mutianyu Great Wall. Highly recommended to walk along the Great Wall and to sit the toboggan down. For those who enjoy hiking they should try hiking up from Bei Gou village where the Brickyard Retreat is located to the beginning of the Jiankou part of the Great Wall.

美丽的建筑，优质的服务和美味的食物。酒店提供往返慕田峪长城的免费交通。强烈推荐沿着长城散步并坐平底雪橇。对于那些喜欢徒步旅行的人来说，应该尝试从瓦厂所在的北沟村徒步到长城剑口部分的起点。

Beautiful spot! Roger and the rest of the staff were amazing! My sister and I stayed two nights and we had a great time. We arranged for the private transport so getting there was very smooth. Our room was large and clean with views of the wall. The food and service were both outstanding. Highly recommend!

Quaint boutique hotel with excellent staff who are very friendly and attentive. The rooms are spacious, well maintained with lovely views. Food was served in the common restaurant and was of high quality. Wish the commercial espresso machine was being used by the morning staff. Overall a great place to consider for a getaway weekend or even an offsite business meeting location.

I rarely write reviews, but I loved everything about this special place and needed to share. I frequently stay in 5 star hotels for business, the hospitality at Brickyard is some of best I've received. The staff make the relaxed atmosphere they create seem effortless, but they must work very hard to maintain it. No staff members seem stressed, despite the excellent level of service, which is a testament to their professionalism and the management. ||||The grounds and views are simply stunning, and throughout the retreat are charming touches of decor, including the exposed brick, and cosy areas to relax. We sat in one of the gardens with a glass of wine watching the sunset one evening, another evening we chilled out and star gazed in the jacuzzi thats open all hours. Talking of wine, the retreat's wine and craft beer list is excellent. The view from the room's huge windows is also stunning. Looking at the view from our room with a morning coffee after a long hike the previous day was one of our favourite things to do. I loved the room's decor and rustic feel, the bed was incredibly comfy, the open shower and organic toiletries from Shangri-la farms is a great touch.||||Food & bakery - wow. There was a wide variety of options, all cooked to the standards of my favourite Michelin restaurants. We didn't plan to, but ended up eating at the retreat every day and night because of the quality. The food was locally sourced or grown onsite and tasted very fresh. ||||The staff gave us great advice for our hikes. Thanks to them and their maps that make things simple, we got up onto the wall erly during the height of Golden Week and it was.... Practically empty! We saw four groups in two hours, during most our walk we had the wall to ourselves.||||Everything is so reasonably priced for the quality. I will be returning to Brick Yard for sure, next time with a group of friends and family. Thanks to all the lovely staff for a wonderful stay!

I want to give a shout out to the AMAZING service we received during our very quick anniversary trip to the Brickyard Resort at Mutianyu! We were so impressed with their hospitality. They worked with us to accommodate our delaying and postponing airline flights which really reflected their belief in making sure their clients had the utmost, fantastic experience possible. The food and service were outstanding including delicious breakfast ,lunch, dinner, desserts, coffee, and drinks. The spa was luxurious and the therapists were so kind! They were the ones who helped us relax after a hectic day of rearranging travel plans due airline delays. We would like to thank the entire staff at the Brickyard for making our anniversary a delightful experience!

We love the Brickyard and this stay was no exception. From the moment we arrived - with our 3 children and our puppy, we had a fantastic time.||What I love about this small, intimate hotel is the friendly care taken by the team under the guidance of the General Manager. The hotel is really great with rustic homely rooms, all with excellent and breathtaking views of the Great Wall. The grounds are beautiful and tranquil and you never feel like it is too crowded - which is wonderful if you have come to escape the busy city (like us). But what really makes this hotel my favourite hotel ever (and I’ve stayed in a few), is without a doubt the service. The team just get it right; the service is friendly and the team cannot do enough to help you. We love it because it truly is a restorative break, a home from home. Oh, and the food is just lovely too: I recommend the chicken curry ‘China in a Bowl’ which is delicious...and if you have any space left, the homemade cakes are the best I’ve had in Beijing! Not great for your waistline but great for your soul. We are already planning our next trip...

We’ve just returned from our second stay at Brickyard this year, having spent 4 nights in one of their vacation homes in Beigou Village. I can’t comment on the hotel rooms or their hotel breakfast, as we’ve never stayed at the actual hotel before. |We loved the vacation home (Lilac Cottage): cozy fireplace, great outdoor area with comfy chairs, pizza oven and gas grill, and a well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed cooking our own meals. But since there is no decent grocery store close by, we had to bring all the food, drinks and ingredients with us. |We absolutely love the remoteness out there though, having our own home and still being able to approach the Brickyard staff anytime and get fast and friendly service. |They deliver a breakfast basket with homemade bread and delicious chutneys everyday and the housekeeping is available upon request. |Here are a few suggestions on how to improve even more:|Prepare hiking maps or tips on what to do or explore in town.|A bigger fridge or a second fridge in the storage area would be nice. As a group of 4 staying for multiple nights we had trouble fitting our groceries in there.|As it happens often in China, there was a subtle sewer smell in the house a couple of times while we were there. I think that can probably be fixed easily.|Some extra towels would be nice, not just for drying hands or dishes in the kitchen, also for sunbathing outside.||Overall, we love it there and even though it’s quite pricey we feel like we get our money’s worth every time. We’ll be back and will try out a different vacation home next time.
