My friend, her baby and I booked the hotel more than a week in advance via Ctrip. When we arrived in Pingyao, after a 4-hour train ride, the entrance guards did not want let us (foreigners) to enter the old town. Apparently the day before (!) the government had implemented a new rule that requires all foreigners (!) to have a nuclear test result. Of course it was impossible for us to get such a test without a sufficient notice period. We called the hotel to help us, who had not informed us about this rule in advance. In the booking it was clear we were foreigners and they had our contact information.||The new regulation seems more than arbitrary and it is unclear if they would have let us in even with such a document. They did not value our valid residence permit, work visa or green health code from Beijing. (We did not leave China since 2020 and thus don’t require a nuclear acid test.) ||In this unpleasant situation the called hotel staff was uncoordinated, incompetent and unhelpful. They just wanted to get rid of us as quickly as possible without helping us to solve the problem. They just called Ctrip to cancel our reservation and did not care that we were standing in the middle of the road with a small baby and no place to stay for the night. The most heartless travel experience in whole China!

我和朋友、她的孩子提前一周多通过携程预订了这家酒店。我们坐了4个小时的火车到达平遥，门卫却不让我们（外国人）进入古城。据说前一天（！）政府实施了一项新规定，要求所有外国人（！）都必须提供核试验结果。当然，如果没有提前通知，我们不可能获得这样的检测结果。我们打电话给酒店寻求帮助，但他们事先并没有告知我们这项规定。预订单上写明我们是外国人，而且他们有我们的联系方式。||这项新规定似乎过于武断，即使我们持有这样的文件，他们也不清楚是否会让我们进入。他们不重视我们有效的居留证、工作签证或北京的绿色健康码。（我们自2020年以来就没有离开过中国，因此不需要进行核酸检测。）||在这种令人不快的情况下，我们打电话联系的酒店工作人员既不协调，也不称职，也没有提供任何帮助。他们只想尽快把我们赶走，根本不帮我们解决问题。他们直接打电话给携程取消了我们的预订，根本不在乎我们带着个小婴儿站在路中间，晚上没地方住。这真是全中国最无情的旅行经历！
