Would give 0 star if I could. My stay at Sofia Hotel was disappointing due to a frustrating experience with housekeeping and management. I found a beautiful, large seashell at the beach and left it in the sink in my room. After we came back to the room, it was gone! When I brought this up to the front desk, they contacted housekeeping, who claimed they never saw or touched any shell—even though it was obviously in plain sight. I then escalated the issue to the manager and showed them the picture of the shell, expecting at least some acknowledgment, but instead, I was completely ignored. No apology, no effort to address the situation. Mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and basic customer service made this experience truly frustrating. Would not recommend this hotel if you value respect for your belongings and how you're treated as a guest. P.S. Their room space is very small. The AC was broken in the first room they give to us. Worst experience of the all time.

Very small rooms with very few amenities. Conservative with the towels and washcloths. The room was clean. I did appreciate that they have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers, but everything was watered down. Front dest staff was not welcoming or friendly. The only one that was kind was the one we did our check out with. No kind of breakfast provided. Definitely not worth the $200 a night. The fees they charge are outrageous. It’s wrong to charge people for a gym that they don’t even use. Outside of the building is cute; and there’s a Starbucks on the corner of the building-you still have to go outside. We could hear a (presumably) drunk homeless guy yelling down the street one night.

The hotel is very nice in general and good located. Unfortunately, the last night someone went in to our room and took my diamond ring. I left the ring at my bed table (I slept next to the door into the room). In the morning it was gone. We noticed things were different in the room for example my husband toilet bag was on the floor. The hotel staff helped us search the whole room for the ring. We asked if they could check the security cameras at our floor but they did not want to. With that said I just want you to use the security look for your safety.

Loved my stay at the Sofia Hotel in downtown San Diego! The hotel is beautiful, the staff is friendly and very accommodating, and the room was excellent - very clean, the bed was comfortable, amazing shower and great in room coffee. I didn’t use the valet service but it’s great they have it available. I highly recommend staying at the Sofia for anyone visiting San Diego, I know I will next time I visit

Great hotel for my stay in San Diego! The room was excellent, the bed was so comfortable, and all the staff were helpful and friendly. My room had light controls on the wall, which made everything so easy to use. The location was also great! I would highly recommend the Sofia for anyone traveling to SD.

The Sofia is a beautiful old hotel that has been updated, but still retains it's historical aspects. The hotel is close to the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp. Rooms, while small, are very nicely finished out with and even include a steamer for your clothes, coffee maker, two bottles of wine reasonably priced for purchase, glass wine glasses and coffee cups, and oversized bath towels. The front desk will give you a complimentary metal bottle of water and has filling stations on the 3rd, 5th and 7th floors. The only downside of the property is that there is not currently a restaurant or bar in the hotel. However, they are currently renovating the space for the restaurant and bar and they will open shortly. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

I stayed for a week to celebrate the holiday with my bestie. Here's some pros and cons: Pros: Location! Location! Location! staff was very friendly parking garage/valet QR code/texting system to request car in valet parking beautiful gym lots of close eateries starbucks on first floor ATM Cons: older building/small elevators many furnishings outdated smaller rooms shower head was horrible/no pressure no bar/lounge area older TV/unable to use any streaming apps not a secure wifi Overall I enjoyed my stay but for nearly $200 a night I do have some expectations of things I would like to have access to. Even with all of the pros, I still rate this hotel as mediocre :(

It seems to be a remodel of an old apartment building so the rooms are very small and quite squished together, so if you're expecting a lot of room, you'll be mistaken. During my stay, there was a broken outlet in the bathroom, which made it very inconvenient to use the hair dryer. Other than this, it had everything you need for a typical stay. The location is its biggest selling point, being about a 10-12 minute walk to the convention center. It's located at a major street corner so finding a bus to go anywhere further than Little Italy, Seaport Village, or the convention center is easy. Very close to Gaslamp quarter but not close enough to hear a lot of noise at night.
