I was very disappointed. While the location is great and it’s nice to be close to the beach, the hotel itself is somewhere I would not recommend staying. Not only did they book my room for reservations I made well in advance to someone else, rather than admitting their mistake, they claimed to “upgrade” me to an ocean view room which had twin beds instead of a king bed. Sort of a bait and switch. On top of that, they charge guests an extra $15 for parking? Lol The staff seemed nice but the customer service was not there whatsoever. Seems like they would rather do the bare minimum and the condition of the hotel echoes this as well. The place is run down, smells like mildew - irritating the throat, and there’s signs everywhere telling you what not to do, definitely not very welcoming. I gave the room two stars because it seemed clean at least and they had decent pillows. The bed seemed very cheap and lots of the lamps had metal that was rusted. When I went to checkout in the morning, the lobby was closed and locked. I tried calling and they put me on hold until I hung up. It’s so sad to see this place so run down with such a prime location. If you’re wanting a nice start to a vacation, I recommend finding somewhere else.

I had a pleasant stay at the Wingate. Mark the manager knows hospitality inside and out. Nina the front desk reception was kind and listened to our requests with care and consideration. The rooms were clean and the pool was five stars as well! If I could give ten stars I would! Come stay here when visiting Galveston. You won’t regret it!

This hotel is in front of the sea, and you can feel the humidity and mold smell when you enter in the room. I stayed a night and luckily wasn’t bite by bags. The hotel needs a deep restoration to be at an adequate standard. I have took some pictures to show you all the room status.

We spent the weekend at Wingate by Wyndham Galveston East Beach and had a wonderful stay. Our room faced the beachfront, offering a stunning scenic view. It was spacious, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. The hotel was clean, and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast included waffles, fruit, bagels, coffee and tea, which was a great start to the day. Overall, the combination of a prime beachfront location, cozy accommodations, and attentive service made for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. I highly recommend this hotel to all my friends!

The Wingate Hotel has a great location to the beach right across the street. So it's been thru a few big storms, and it's starting to show its age as well. It's in need of some renovation. They are working on it. We had a small room with double beds, the restroom was very small, the door to the restroom would stick and started to pull apart and you could see where they had tried to repair the door only to happen again. The staff was very nice and helpful and busy. They do offer breakfast in the morning from 7a-9a, which would consist of waffles, croissants, bread for toast, bananas, dry cereal, coffee, and teas. So not too bad, but once they ran out, that was it. Get there early. We had gone during the week and wanted to extend our stay day longer, and they were able to accommodate us. If your passing thru this would be the place. If you're looking for accessibility this would be the place. There are other hotels that will charge double what the Wingate does. So you decide. We spent most of our days on the beach, or at the Pleasure Pier or at the Kemah Boardwalk, and slept at night at the hotel. Oh, they do charge you (customers) for parking $15. a night

Paid for an ocean view and got a fence view!! Cleanliness is definitely lacking! The door and walls were filthy. The TV didn't work, it took 2 calls and more than 2 hours before someone came to fix it. We definitely don't recommend staying here to anyone

We stayed in this hotel 02/07/2025 the night before our cruise. We were in our room for a few hours, when we discovered little red, and black bugs on our beds. We informed the front desk that these were bedbugs, and they would not refund our room. They just wanted us to change rooms. We ended up staying at another hotel. I do not write bad reviews often, but this is unacceptable. We have put in a call to Wyndham corporate, and disputing their charge on our bank account. I definitely do not recommend this hotel.

Unpleasant place, lots of hidden charges that take it out of ‘budget’ category. This “pet friendly” dump hit me for nearly 40% extra for my cat and parking in a huge, mostly empty lot. Reception was inexplicably locked when I arrived mid afternoon. After letting me in, receptionist ignored me except to order me to let people in the door which was still locked. When I expressed unpleasant surprise about $80 in unexpected charges for a two-night stay, she rolled her eyes. WiFi doesn’t work in my room. Room is adequate but dingy. Location is excellent, but doesn't make up for numerous defects. There are lots of hotels in Galveston - stay somewhere else. Five minutes after checking in, I had an unfamiliar feeling of loathing for this hotel. I’m low maintenance and easy to please, but this place just sucks. Edit the next day: It just gets worse. WiFi is hopeless, toilet clogs if you look at it, so does the sink. I bought some iced coffee and soft drinks last night to put in the fridge, and they were frozen this morning. It’s almost comically awful at this point. If I didn’t have my cat with me, I’d probably choose to sleep with the homeless folks on the beach under Murdoch’s instead. The highlight of staying here is having a chuckle while writing about how awful a hotel this is. I once stayed in a $2/night concrete box in Guatemala that had more charm. This place will make you believe in two things: Reincarnation is real, and you did something unspeakably awful to this place in a past life, because they are getting even now.
