New Perfume Garden Group of Houseboat

I accompanied my mom and her friend (for mom's 80th birthday). Gulam and his family and staff are wonderful hosts, serving abundant, home-cooked, tasty meals and tea in a Victorian-style dining room. The boat ever so slightly rocks you to sleep in the spacious bedrooms (mattresses a bit thin for old bones but younger folks would barely notice). Abundant very hot water in the showers (though not great pressure). Very good Wi-Fi. ||||The best part is the stupendous view of Dal Lake and the mountains from the porch -- and the amazing tours Gulam arranges and accompanies you on (all the while providing clear, educated responses to the questions that are bound to spill out in response to the amazing things you see). Gulam is sweet, calm, always making sure you have everything you need. ||||We had only 4 days, limited in the level of activity, but Gulam ensured we made the most of it. The first night, a peaceful paddle in a luxuriously-tapestried gondola through the water market "streets" and then on to the lily and lotus "fields."The next day gorgeous, meticulously groomed Victorian-era gardens/parks with relaxing water features. Day 3 an all-day mountain trip through "Apple Valley" (at the height of the harvest season in this "fruit basket" of India), ending at a park with views and fresh air rivaling the Swiss Alps -- and then to a shop selling dried fruits, nuts, and spices (when we entered the aroma and sight of the abundance were delightful). Day 4, uphill for three views of Srinagar, then another Victorian garden complete with ruins of an old home, and three charming young girls who ran up to us, greeting us in perfect English and asking to touch our hair... Ended with visits to a mosque and then a mosque/shrine (where we were warmly, effusively welcomed by both the women and men worshipping inside).

I did not know what to expect when i first off landed in shrinagar, I had blindly booked a tikcet and accomondation for 5 nights at Highland queen house boats. I was suprised by the most welcomeing and honest peapole at Highland queen! Gulam and Jaja welcomed me whit Kashmiri tee and amazeing food. I`m still staying here and plannig to stay for a while! The location is fantastic whit beautiful views of dall lake. I really look forwards at going trekking whit Jaja the guide here and maby sking later on when theres snow! I will shurely return here again whit in the 10 months i still have to spend in india!||||I will report back here after my stay here!||||Don`t hesitate to come to kashmir. Its heven on earth! I srongly recomend Highland queen for your stay, the peapole here can arrange all kinds of activitys but if you are a lazy one you shure will enjoy the great food, tee, the amazeing views and the beautiful house boat rooms!

The Owner and the family are really nice and friendly. The hospitality is excellent! The home made foods are fresh and delicious. The place and the view is amazing. We are glad to see this place. We will come back in the future for sure, as many other guests do. The owner can arrange anything (trips to the mountains, food, shopping) as you wish. The houseboat is a unique thing, that you should try.

I find the service excellent. We appreciate a lot hospitality and friendly atmosphere. And we are grateful to the owner of the houseboats who is very helpful, honest and cares a lot about the guests. The place is wonderful, on the lake, in the nature, with mountain view... The home made food is fantastic! We are very happy to stay here and we will be more happy to come again... :)

The White Horse and Highland Houseboats, Srinagar, Kashmir| The White Horse and its neighbor, the Highland are two elegant houseboats on beautiful Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. It is the middle of January and it is cold to be on a houseboat. It is cold everywhere. But not to worry. Gulam Nabi Gagroo, the gracious owner of both the White Horse and the Highland, has given us Khaftans to wear, both inside the houseboat and out. All Kashmiris seem to wear them. I wear mine over my down jacket. We just bought cashmere sweaters from one of the many peddlers who come to the houseboats selling their wares. The added warmth will be most welcome. | We are rowed ashore by one of the houseboys. Gulam has a driver waiting for us and we all go to the mountains. At noontime we sit by a river and eat the sandwiches our houseboat cook has prepared for us. It is a marvelously happy experience!|Every evening one of the two houseboy lights a fire in our woodstove and brings us hot water bottles to warm our beds. In the morning he comes in and lights the stove again and brings us Kashmir tea. When we finally get up the stamina to get out of our bed, into the warm shower and into our clothes, we are treated to a wonderful breakfast of toast, jam and porridge.| Srinagar is at the foot of the Himalayas and is surrounded by mountain peaks, some snow-covered, some in the clouds. It must be absolutely stunning in warmer months, as the ancient Moghul gardens are in full bloom and saffron and herb fields that dot the landscape are ripe. And, of course, Dal Lake must be at its absolute best then, and life in the exotic White Horse and the Highland must be at its very best. Still, though, if you want to be pampered by Gulam and his lovely family and staff, you can’t beat winter in one of their wonderful houseboats.||||||||||| | Saturday Market on Dal Lake|

The room condition is okay but the WiFi is not stable. Hot shower supply is not stable since my friend staying the next room without hot shower. |Btw, we asked the owner to advise highway trip Srinagar to Leh. He quoted RS 2500 higher than our another option. Furthermore, when we requested to stop at Lamyuru monetary during the trip, he even confused us that lamayuru is not on the way to Leh and quoted higher price for the trip. Therefore, we didn’t choose the trip he provided.

The Hose boat is in front line and central location: easy to get in and out and safe.||I had the last room: big room in colonial style with one double bad and one single.||Bathroom is small but effective,but bit low stream in shower.Hot water available 24 hrs.||WiFi signal is strong when there is no electricity issue in Srinagar city.||The handsome owner, Mr. Gulam preparing very tasty food and serve tea and coffee.||He could help and arrange mountain trekking and all support you are asking for.
