Woodlands Hotel

One of the oldest hotels in Mangaluru. They have pleasant rooms with decent price. Rooms are very clean with proper mattress. (very rarely a room can be not good). The restaurant have delicious foods. They still have the taste which is decades ago. Location is great to connect city, bus station and railway stations too.

I’ve been visiting Woodlands for many years. It’s an old restaurant known for serving Mangalore-style food. While the taste is decent, it’s not quite what it used to be. However, they do offer a spacious parking area, which is convenient.

I havent stayed here, but tried their food. Its old restaurant, serving the authentic mangalore style food. Reached around 11:40, the meals were already ready ready so couldnt try the breakfast menu. Veg meals, vada sambar, coffee and halwa. Veg meals comes with chapati, rice, pappad, rasam, dal, pachadi, pickle, sabji. Vada sambar and chutney was good , vada was crispy. Meals doent have any sweet option, so ordered, bottle gaurd halwa, its was too sweet for me.

I had been visiting this restaurant since 20 years back and had been waiting for a nostalgic feeling to visit this place again recently (31-May-2024). So planned a visit with my family after 20 years. But this visit was literally spoiled by the hotel management. Pure arrogance exhibited by the servers there... pathetic service offered by them. Worst quality food provided by them that day. May be their service had deteriorated which I wasn't aware. The servers serving here are thinking that they are throwing food for us like beggars... and we are living because of their food. But it is the other way round... ie., hotel survives based on loyal customer like us.. hotel earns money with our visits.. thereby such arrogant servers make their everyday living. will definitely not visit this place in future and will never recommend the place to anyone in future. In fact, I even complained about the arrogance attitude of this server to the hotel reception which they never bothered.

This place always remains gold in the eyes of the old school Mangalore. Tried the kesari bath and Kasi halva. It want too sweet yet hit the right spot on the taste buds.. Rava dosa their all time favorites along with some authentic goli bajji was a good meal. Their chutney is my all time favorite. Very thick and flavourful. Oh boy and their coffee is bloody simply brilliant. Must try.

We stopped by here for breakfast. The idli and Vada were over fermented and slightly sour. The dosa was very good, especially the palya. The coffee was typical Woodlands - well balanced and perfectly hot!

Naan is really soft, the gravies could be more flavorful. The service could be better as well.

What was once an iconic hotel is now deserted! Went here for breakfast and it was a disappointment, idlies were cold and the Vada was dry. When I raised this point the steward didn’t care. Sad to see such an iconic place on the downhill. What was surprising is there were hardly any people on a weekend morning!
