Avabai Mansion Bed and Breakfast

It’s in the heart of Colaba. Old colonial style buildings with good rooms and services for a reasonable price. If you prefer modern and star hotel services, you might not like it. People who works there were really helpful. Room was spacious, air conditioned and with a balcony as well. With big wardrobe, tv, working table and attached bathroom. Wifi was strong. With free breakfast which is bread and butter with tea or coffee. It’s just walking distance from Gateway, Taj, Causeway, Leopold and almost all the iconic places of Colaba.

Shoutout to Somanath for being a great host! Thank you! Also the rest of the team for being very helpful and kind! Made a reservation through booking.com and was given a room in Sethna House (just 2 min away from Avabai) which was actually a free upgrade because we had a private bathroom connected directly to the room. Location is fantastic as Gateway of India is just a short walk away, you have many places where you can eat and can easily explore Colaba by foot if you want to see the old part of Mumbai. The room is a bit dark and maybe needs some upgrades, but it was very big and I liked the old furniture, goes well with the colonial old style of the building. Hot water in the shower. But the best part were definitely the people working here.

Very friendly staff. They offered 2 rooms to choose from. Calm atmosphere in the hotel. The windows face the main street, but there is good sound insulation! Close proximity to attractions and convenient transportation. My husband and I are pleased with our stay at this hotel. If we go to Mumbai again, we will visit it again. We will recommend you to friends and acquaintances.

Fully spacious room with wonderful ventilation and a large balcony in comparison with other properties in colaba.. And the most affordable budget friendly property when compared to surrounding hotels..

Spent a week here in 2 different rooms. Great location, very secure, and the staff are beyond friendly. The real tip is to get one of the rooms facing the main street. The rooms are spacious and there’s a big window to observe the hustle and bustle down below - great to have a morning coffee to. Yes, the private bathroom is outside down the hall, but the view makes up for it. Some of the other rooms will not give you the same satisfaction. This isn’t the Ritz, so don’t expect it, but it’s a great, good value way to experience Mumbai.

Very nice place to stay near to Taj mahal hotel, Mumbai. Gateway of Mumbai is just a 5 min walk. This building is in the Colaba market. Hotel is very neat and clean. Very peaceful stay. Recommended for families and couples to stay here.

I stayed at the Colaba Bed and Breakfast four nights with my fiancee. We had a great experience because we knew what to expect. Our main priorities were having a safe place that was also clean. This hotel is well run and strives for Indian standards, not western one, which fit us well as two backpackers traveling on a budget. Our room was clean upon arrival and the bedding was washed. However, it was clear that the sheets had been used for several years and were not white any longer. This is an astetic issue, not a hygienic one. The bathroom was sanitary and there was no sign of insects anywhere. Breakfast was toast with jam and hot chai. You have to request breakfast each morning. The hotel staff were kind and friendly. The thick concrete walls keep street noise out, but hotel guests and management come and go at almost all hours of the night. Overall this was a safe and economic place to stay near the major attractions in Colaba.

Thanks for the peace- & warmful stay. It was very nice. The staff is super nice and friendly. To the bed and breakfast also belongs a cat and an dog. The dog and the cat are relaxing outside at the entrance. The location is super. Gateway of India and also some markets near by.
