Second time at this exceptionally beautiful Medieval build (1526) Haveli run by 18th generation family. |To sum up:|Amazing authentic rooms with aircon|Superb breakfast |Service given with love and care|Location perfect within Fort|Well respected family within their local community ||BUT|For me it is the family that keeps me coming back. Beautiful people, nothing is too much for them. They are warm hearted, sincere and above all honest and approachable. ||There are not enough descriptive words to truly convey how l feel about Suraj and family. |Thank you guys, you are gold!

If you are going to India, you should visit Jaisalmer. And if you visit Jaisalmer, you should stay at Hotel Suraj, absolutely. ||The Vyas family have lived within the fort in this lovingly restored medieval haveli for 18 generations. They are gracious hosts who will offer you a wealth of information about Jaisalmer Fort and current cultural context. Their generous knowledge made our stay much richer than we typically expect, even in a small hotel. ||Beyond that, breakfast is prepared for you alongside whatever the family are eating that morning - delicious and nutritious. And if you are under the weather (as we were, with chest colds) you'll be taken good care of with hot lemon-honey-ginger concoctions. ||If we are back, we will certainly stay here and we can confidently recommend that you do, too.

To be clear: I didn’t stay here. However, I was fortunate enough to have an overwhelmingly positive experience with the owner one evening, where I had beer on his rooftop, and I was shown around the haveli. I already had somewhere to stay. So it was this family run business’ passion for their 500 year property, and their desire to welcome people to their ancestral home that prompted such generosity and interesting conversation. The haveli is nestled in the heart of the fort, and comprises of 4 spacious bedrooms, which we were shown. Each of the rooms preserving the natural character of the building, with painted murals and original built in closets adorning the walls. I’m writing this review because I was so moved by the host’s care for his ancestral home, his love of sharing it with people, and his devotion to offering tourists an authentic and value for money experience of Jaisalmer. It’s a humble home converted into a 4 room guest house, and so the amenities might look a little basic, but your stay would be more than made up for by the family who run it and the history of the building that beats within.

We arrived late in the evening but Shubhan guide us to their haveli. If you want an authentic stay with super nice people: this is the place to go. Every guest gets a free welcome tour in Jaiselmer fort from Shubhan, which was very nice. As we left he brought all our stuff downhill for us. A great stay!

Delightful family who went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy. The added bonus was a tour from the son, Shubham, of the fort. He is incredibly knowledgeable and informative. This was included with our stay as well as an Indian breakfast and the best tea in India. Air-conditioning worked, bathroom was fine and bed was comfortable. Highly recommend this very beautiful, historical home!!

We had the best experience in Suraj Haveli! Our stay was fabulous thanks to the lovely host family. They were super kind and flexible. We really really appreciated their hospitality! They received us very early in the morning (also organising a pick up at the station at 6am) and allowed us to check in by that time. They also offered us a room to rest and shower after our night in the desert. They helped us getting train tickets and sorting out the desert trip. The friendly son spent a morning with us walking through the fort and telling us stories about his city. At every moment they made our life's easier and I just can't thank them enough for being such a great hosts! The Haveli is very well located inside the fort, which is super recommended if you want to scape from the city chaos for some nights. You will literally be living in an old beautiful haveli, perfectly conserved. Their rooftop offer super nice views from the city too! Also want to mention the delicious traditional breakfasts. We loved this place and absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a magic experience in Jaisalmer!

100% recommended !! We had a wonderful stay here, the whole family was lovely and very hospitable! Accommodated all our wishes and organised a great camel safari in the thar desert! Beautiful big rooms, very clean, great roof top views and delicious breakfast! Definitely the best place to choose to stay in Jaisalmer!

Shubham and his family were wonderful. We had a very nice stay in this old haveli in the middle of the fort. The place was incredible and we felt like home. Shubham was very attentive towards all our needs, and as a very good owner, he helped us with the desert safari and gave us a free tour of the fort. If you go to Jaisalmer, Hotel Suraj is a must!
