Alma San Diego Downtown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

A really nice hotel, with nice rooms and big showers. The staff was hospitable and attentive. The card reader for my room died, and they had it fixed in no time. The location of the hotel is good, but there are so many homeless people wandering in/around the area; not the hotel's fault, but it does impact the stay.

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. The front desk had poor communication with us and each other, giving us a room we didn’t book — even after calling to confirm multiple times. The so-called “upgraded” room had a broken TV and a supposed king bed that was clearly a double or queen. We were offered a food credit that was never provided, and the room was never cleaned properly during our stay. For the price, you’re better off finding something similar — or better — elsewhere.

This is not a 4-star property. The room was relatively nice and a good size, but the ambient noise was crazy for being almost on the top floor. If you like peace and quiet when you sleep, bring earplugs. The shower with no door is silly and water gets all over the bathroom floor. Why the heck does the thermostat have a motion sensor? I set it to a comfortable temperature to sleep, and I woke up in the middle of the night burning up. The temperature in the room several degrees higher than what I set it at, and the AC would not turn on until I walked near the thermostat. Ridiculous. Decent location, close to lots of cool bars and restaurants. You get to share the sidewalks with plenty of strung out homeless though!

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The balcony on the 11th floor was the highlight—spacious with an incredible view that’s perfect for relaxing or enjoying a coffee in the morning. Paula at check-in was super kind and made the process easy, answering all my questions. Brandon at check-out was also very friendly and explained the bill clearly. If you’re looking for a great view and a nice place to unwind, definitely ask for a room with a balcony on the 11th floor!

Lena at the front desk was very helpful and kind. We had flown in early in the day and she helped us keep our luggage safe before check in. Hotel is very updated and nice. We loved the option to take morning yoga on the rooftop. Beds are very comfy!

Our stay at The Alma Hotel was fantastic! My family and I stayed there while visiting the San Diego Zoo, and it was the perfect choice. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, providing a great place to relax after a long day. During our stay, the hotel was transitioning to a Marriott property, which caused a few minor system glitches, but it didn't detract from our experience. The staff was incredibly friendly, the food was delicious, and the barista made some of the best coffee we've ever had! The location is ideal--close to both the airport and the Zoo--and the price was very reasonable for such convenience. We had an amazing experience overall and will definitely stay here again in the future!

Great hotel in a nice location downtown. There are a ton of restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were quite large and very clean. I'm not crazy about the shower with no door (essentially just a stall) because it lets cold air in, and gets water on the floor, but I'm guessing it's probably easier to clean. My only serious complaint is that I visited in January, and the room thermostat had zero correlation with the actual temperature of the hotel room. The thermostat maxed out at 78; I reckon the room didn't get above 68 at most, which for me is way too cold. In fairness to the hotel, I didn't bring it up to them because it was a short trip and I didn't want to change rooms.

Alma is a beautiful hotel! It has amazing amenities. You definitely get your moneys worth for this hotel. Great spot to be in if you’re looking to be in an area to be around bars, clubs, and restaurant's. Not to mention the staff is SO nice. Lena was great!! She was more than helpful and made us feel so welcomed :)
