decent hotel to stay at in downtown SD, the walls are kind of thin so you can hear what’s happening in the building. also expect it to be noisy in late hours, it is in the middle of SD nightlife and many bars. i didn’t mind it, but some might so be aware! the rooms are very spacious and clean, and i was staying alone so didn’t mind the open shower.

Alex and Oscar at the front desk are awesome. They are very helpful and able to give you real local tips to travel around. Hotel is awesome and close to the convention center The room, however, needs redesigning and remodeling. The shower area doesn’t have a door, which made it freezing during the winter. The overall design of the room just wasn’t my style.

We had the best stay here! The rooms were modernized and updated and the staff was amazing! I actually ended up losing some valuables in our room the day after we left, and the customer service staff was so amazing and helpful in getting those items returned to me. For the customer services alone my partner and I vowed to always stay in a Keating Hotel any place we visit! Thank you so much again guys! you guys are awesome !!

Over 10 years since this was featured on Hotel Hell and the owner still hasn't changed. The rooms look and feel like a sterile psych ward and what's up with the futuristic bathtub on the main living space. You can get a better experience at a mainstream chain Hotel.

A Hidden Gem with Exceptional Service I recently stayed at The Keating Hotel, and I have to say, it far exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed—but what truly stood out was the size of the rooms. They were way bigger than I anticipated, offering plenty of space to relax without feeling cramped. The sleek, modern design only added to the experience, making it feel more like a luxury loft than a typical hotel room. Beyond the spacious layout, the bed was incredibly comfortable—one of the best I’ve slept on in any hotel. It was the perfect balance of plush and supportive, making it almost impossible to leave in the morning. But what truly set The Keating apart was the customer service. Specifically, Alex went above and beyond to make my stay exceptional. From personalized recommendations to handling requests with ease and efficiency, Alex made me feel like a VIP guest. It’s rare to find someone who genuinely cares about the guest experience, and his attention to detail was unmatched. Overall, The Keating Hotel is a hidden gem that combines style, comfort, and world-class hospitality. If you’re looking for a place that not only meets but exceeds expectations, this is it. I’ll definitely be returning!

The room reminded me of a psych ward or an urban jail cell. The floor was concrete and the pain was chipping. This should be your absolute LAST resort. ||It was very close to everything but I didn’t feel like I was home away from home. I’ll post pictures.

5-star experience all around. Very accommodating no matter the time. Oscar at the front desk was extremely helpful, nice, and even gave us food and travel recommendations. Over the top service, and an over the top room.

Staying at the Keating Hotel is in the heart of the historic Gaslamp district; close to many clubs, places to eat, and public transportation. We knew what to expect by reading the reviews. We are very low maintenance and had everything we needed for our 9-night stay; the host made accessing and locating easy and checked in on us often. Many mention noise as an issue and ear plugs are provided, however, if you're unable to sleep through the sound from other rooms and loud music from the night-life, this may not be for you. Expect noise from 7:30p until 3:30a. We did not have a set schedule and discovered that having our TV volume up helped us somewhat drown out the noise. We were in the room only to sleep and spent a majority of our time checking out all the city had to offer. If you're looking for a low-cost place to keep your belongings, shower, can sleep through noise, and want easy access to night-life and public transportation, this is a great place for you! We enjoyed our stay.
