Great showers (hot, good water pressure). Criminally expensive to-go food ($3.30 for a regular old banana, $5 for an admittedly excellent croissant). Comfortable mattresses and pillows. Effective black out shades. Room finishes were only okay. Unbeatable central location. Very close view of the Trump building out many hotel room windows.

Great location directly in front of the Chicago Riverwalk. Clean property, comfortable beds, blackout curtains, lighting in the bathroom along with a lighted makeup mirror which always comes in handy when getting ready. Judy at the front desk provided exceptional customer service. She made the check in process very smooth and gave me a room with a spectacular view of the Chicago River. Thank you for your exceptional customer service Judy!

Overall, if you are looking for a Marriott with great river and skyline views and decent quality rooms, that is clean and within walking distance to budget (State St) and high end shopping (Magnificent Mile) then it's hard to beat the Renaissance on Wacker. Unless there is a big show at the Chicago theater, which is right next door, it's surprisingly uncrowded. Anything from the main lobby forward is clean and feels safe at night. Now, anything back down State Street can be a little more questionable at night but I didn't feel unsafe. It is also .1 miles from the red line train station (Lake) so you can get a day pass and access to most of the city for $5. Millennium Park and the Bean are a 10 minute walk, the river walk in literally downstairs and across the street. The downside is that you are paying a premium for location. You should know there is a mandatory $25 a day use-it-or-lose-it fee for food/beverages but it can be used at the bar, on room service, or on snacks. There is also a lounge but breakfast is only served Monday-Friday until 9 am. The rooms are not fancy and feel dated but they are clean and roomy, and if you get a higher floor on the riverside, the views are stunning.

Had a great night stay! The staff was so sweet-Judy at the front desk made our son feel like royalty for his bday. They even sent up a little treat. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. We had an amazing view of the river from our room. Great location! Thank you for making our special night in the city so memorable!

For the location, Renaissance Chicago Downtown gets 5 stars every time! The hotel rooms, on the other hand, need major renovations!! For the price point, there's no reason why guests should be looking at mildew around the showers and tub caulking, walking on floors that have sink holes in them, and eating off of plates that have not been cleaned (in the club lounge). The staycation menu needs an update and more variety. To entice guests to dine within the hotel with a $25/day destination credit and the food is horrible, is counterintuitive. The Raised bar on the other hand gets it right! The ambiance and service are great!

★★★

The wedding venue was outstanding. It was beautifully done and well serviced||The hotel room was nice. The toilet paper and Kleenex were incredibly cheap and the rooms still have the old fashioned low toilets. This could be a problem with those with bad backs. |The restaurant is limited and extremely noisy. The $25 destination daily charge I considered to be ridiculous especially when you have to check out by noon on a Sunday. The charge is noon to noon.

Great Hotel in a great location. Perfect to be right at the Clark/ Lake Metro stop as huge traffic backup out of Ohare made the Blue Train perfect. Beautiful Club lounge with great food.
