I had the best check-in experience at La Meridien Essex thanks to Jasmine and James! From the moment I walked in, they were warm, welcoming, and incredibly professional. Jasmine was friendly and efficient, making the process smooth and stress-free, while James went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and informed about the hotel’s amenities and surrounding area. They truly set the tone for my stay—kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful. It’s rare to find front desk staff who make you feel both like a valued guest and like you’re being welcomed home. Huge thanks to both of them for their exceptional service!

Excellent hotel, a new favorite in Chicago. Sunny, super comfortable room with great amenities and -helpfully-really good lighting. A huge thanks to Kiera at the front desk who is easily one of the most capable, friendly staff members I’ve dealt with in a long time. I liked this hotel so much I switched a future reservation to stay here again.

So the hotel is in an older building but they’ve done a decent job in renovating it. Bed is comfortable and bathroom is a bit utilitarian with little storage but fine. The walls though are paper thin and I could hear my neighbors’ “activity” and kudos to them for engaging in it so many times in a night but seems like a missed opportunity when they renovated the rooms they cheap out on sound proofing. My major issue is the SCAM destination fee. Hotels do this to lower their rates on websites but gotcha when you check out without delivering any real benefits. The “included” WiFi is a Marriott brand standard. Here for $15 a day you get a $15 voucher at their restaurant which has cafeteria food, and the worse part? They won’t give you the vouchers at once when you check in for multiple nights’ stay. You have to go to the front desk and ask for it daily. The management makes it difficult to even use the “benefit” you pay for, shame on the management for this scam. What’s next? The benefit of using the towels or having a TV? As long as this fee is in placed and how they handle the vouchers, AVOID this place.

As long as you get one of the Superior Rooms with the City View, it’s a solid place to stay. Great location. I’m not a fan of the basic rooms and lack of amenities in general, but for a few days it works. As a note, the gym is very basic with 1 working elliptical, 2 treadmills, some 45lb or less dumbbells and a strength training machine- and it can get oversubscribed in the morning.

Booker beware: don’t expect customer service from this hotel if an issue arises. I won’t stay here again, that’s for sure. I had a reservation with this hotel earlier this month. I am very respectful and tidy wherever I stay. I don’t make noise, I don’t take anything that doesn’t belong to me, and I don’t spend much time in the room. During my stay in Chicago, I mostly explored the city until it was time to take a shower and go to bed. I even returned my card keys the morning I checked out so they could be recycled. Once I got home, I noticed that, in addition to daily destination fees, I was charged a one-time $50 fee. When I called the hotel to get clarity on the charge, I was told that the remote control in the room was damaged. The only time I touched the remote was to turn the TV off, since it was on when I entered the room. I was not examining the remote – only turning the TV off – but it didn’t seem damaged the one time I used it. I was told that the manager was not in and that she would contact me after an investigation was done. I never received a call. I tried calling again three days later and was told again that I would receive a call from the manager. Again, she never called. I followed up another three days later and was told that the manager would be out for two days. I don’t understand how a hotel doesn’t have a manager on staff. Yet again, I agreed to wait to get a call back about the situation. Yet again, I received no call from her. I have been charged $50 for something I did not do and have not even gotten the respect of a call about it. I have given the hotel nine days to investigate this situation and contact me, but after clearly being ignored for over a week, I will issue a warning to people looking at this hotel: make sure to record and take pictures of all of the items in your room the day you check out. It’s truly your word against the hotel’s, and no one there cares enough to reach out to you and speak to you about the situation. I don’t know what happened to the item in question. All I know is that I had nothing to do with it and I’m being penalized for something I didn’t do.

Thanks Jasmine for the great front desk service! I have been coming here since early 2024 for work, and my stays have always been pleasant. Room is always clean and one of the nicer places that I stay at. Traveling for work isn't always easy but making this simpler is comforting

Took a solo trip to Chicago and this hotel was everything and more. Everything was clean and comfortable. A robe and slippers were provided. Kiera’s customer service was awesome! I even had a wonderful brunch at the restaurant connected to the hotel. I will be back!
