Des Lux Hotel

What a lovely establishment! Tastefully decorated with a high end luxury feel. The lobby is beautiful and the front desk staff was extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations and local destinations within walking distance. The room was beautiful and bed/linens gave me a very comfortable and restful night. Nice self-serve breakfast buffet included. Nice gym & sauna. Parking is easy--right across the street. I self parked and handled my own luggage. The hotel is small with a quiet lobby and I felt very comfortable as a solo female senior traveler. The only minor disappointment was there was not much of a view from my room. The hotel building is only 4 stories so all I could see was the building across the street. And the bar is not open on Sundays. I highly recommend this for your next visit to Des Moines!!

The hotel is only about 20+ years old in its present form. It's an old building from the 1920s that had a couple of other iterations before becoming a hotel. ||The remodeling was perfect. The decor alone in the lobby is worth a visit. Eclectic mix of modern art and classical statues. The hotel colors are dark and rich, and the lighting is made to give it the feel of a 1920s-1930s hotel. Even the telephones in the room have that old-school motif. ||We stayed in the fireplace- jacuzzi suite. I would highly recommend this option (if you can afford it!). ||The hotel is in walking distance from a great Italian restaurant(Centro's). Just down the street a couple of blocks. ||I stayed here once before, about 10 years ago during the Des Moines Marathon weekend. I was impressed enough to want to come back some day.

I booked the Des Lux for a quick visit to Des Moines and am really glad I did. The booking was quick and easy, and we received a discounted rate for an upgrade to a beautiful fireplace / spa room. The complimentary breakfast is quite good, and the common spaces are very pretty. The real stand-out for this property is the staff: Every team member I had contact with, from the reservation person to the front desk, to the server at breakfast to the housekeepers was very professional. ||||Another plus for this property compared to other downtown hotels I've booked is that the parking is convenient and inexpensive. There's a public parking garage across the street that only charges $10 for 24 hours.

Really nice place! Very clean, it seems very ritzy, but it's very laid back atmosphere. They had so many nice accommodations. I didn't even expect to have breakfast. But they have a continental breakfast, they have a very nice hot tub, a dry sauna, a wet sauna, also a a workout gym.

The arrangements reflected the staff’s professionalism. Nothing was left out and we thoroughly enjoyed a special stay! Highly recommend. Thank you Mary & Sandy for taking care of all the details. We occupied the “Gateway Suite” on a cold December weeknight and loved having the cozy fireplace for both ambiance & warmth!

The minute we entered we were treated with kindness as the front desk staff generously upgraded us to a king suite! The masseuses also radiated positivity and serenity throughout our time with them. The spa and hot tub were just what we needed for a couples get away! The location of Des Lux was just a 3-minute walk to our favorite restaurant downtown!

The bed (found out that they are custom made) is the very BESTBED I’ve ever slept on!!! And wow, what a difference this makes, especially when traveling. It can make or break your stay. The decor is wild & thoroughly entertaining. All employees are absolutely spectacular. I felt very much “At home” & totally cared for. Two people in particular deserve a special shout out. Interestingly, their names|are MARY & JOSEPH (Joe). These two beautiful people made my stay in Des Moines, memorable in the very best way imaginable. Special mention too, to the lovely woman who manages the breakfast (wonderful) lounge. Please do yourself a very big favor, and if in Des Moines, make your stay at the Des Lux Hotel.💜

I was really impressed by the Des Lux Hotel. The atmosphere and enviance were very eclectic. The rooms are huge by hotel standards. The hotel/halls were quiet. The gym and sauna and sitting areas were all well maintained. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and restful. I truly enjoyed the room which included a fireplace, a full-sized leather couch and a separate sitting area with a dinette table. Aesthetically, it was the best hotel room I've ever stayed in. Be advised that any room that is on the interior side of the hotel will have zero view and it isn't even worth opening the curtains. Even natural sunlight was reduced. Also on every floor, rooms 3 and 12 are going to be next to the elevator shaft and it is quite noticeable, especially during heavy use periods and at night (it woke me up a couple of times). Parking is either by meter on the street or in the city garage across the street, but it's only $10 per day and free on Sundays (no in/out options, you have to pay each time you exit). The hotel location is downtown, but there are several dining options within short walking distances. I would stay at this hotel again and would highly recommend it to others.
