★Positive: So impressed with how we were greeted upon arrival. Felt so welcome with the young man right when we walked through the door and also accomodating our needs for the room. Negative: What is not to like. It is gorgeous.

NillI booked a discounted stay for my parents when they came to visit. They stayed in a river view room and my parents loved the view and the deck! The room is spacious, and the bike path is right there. You can walk over to the Rose Gardens across the river. The restaurant also is beautiful with amazing views. Of course there could be some minor improvements with it recently re-opening from remodeling, but nothing of big significance. The staff were all 10/10 kind, attentive, and helpful.

NillGreat location, loved the river view. Staff was friendly and made check-in easy. Rooms were clean and updated. Lots of nice touches including an extra sound barrier behind the tv. The only negative was the restaurant. Service was very slow and after 30 minutes we were finally given the opportunity to order and was told that French toast and pancakes would take over 40 minutes to prepare which would have made our check out late so we left. The restaurant only had 5 other people in it so it was not busy.

★★We arrived early, dropped off our luggage, pre-checked in. When we returned at 5 PM, our room was not ready. The stressed out front desk person had to scramble to find us a clean room and did not offer to send our luggage up. |We paid for a Riverview room. The room we got had a very obstructed Riverview that could only be seen from the patio. When I checked out, I commented on this and would told the manager would call. The manager never called. |In addition while we were checking in, the front desk was very understaffed and I witnessed a front desk person yelling at another person trying to check in! I was appalled. |I would have expected an experience like this if we had stayed at a Motel 6, but there’s a reason why I didn’t book the Motel 6, I expected a lot more from the Valley River Inn. Very disappointed.||Also, I would have expected some additional touches like coffee in the morning. Also, the hot tub was closed for the season, I expected the pool to be closed, but not the hot tub. ||On the positive side, the renovations were nice, the room was clean.

NillLove staying here while traveling. Our room was clean and comfy with a great view of the river. Food and drinks were really good at the Sweetwater restaurant within the hotel.

NillBeautiful but NO THANKS. The furnishing are modern and hip. The walls are THIN - I had to listen to the guy next door snoring, burping, coughing all night long. They put $100 extra hold on your credit card for whatever they think you are going to do. I will not stay again.

★★★First, it's great to have the Valley River Inn back in the Eugene hotel scene. As others have written, the hotel was closed for an extended period to recover and renovate after a fire destroyed much of the property.||In some ways, the hotel has done a great job. The public spaces are modern and new feeling. The wide-open lobby extends into what feels like a giant living room around a fireplace. The restaurant looks interesting and inviting and the food was excellent. The "hard product" renovation was well dome.||They did a decent enough job updating the guest rooms. While they don't feel "luxury," they are certainly in the top 5 hotels in Eugene (although probably toward the bottom of that top tier). ||What's head-scratching are some of the unforced errors and service misses. I want to be clear: I understand that this is a staged opening. However, even a restaurant opening for "friends and family" before launch wouldn't dare do so without the basics. Speaking of which...||The restaurant, Sweet Waters, is currently open for a very abbreviated schedule (They open at 2pm until they close everything, including the bar, full of out-of-town football visitors, at 10pm). So, they don't serve breakfast. A little unusual for a hotel, but fine. What is crazy is that there is no way outside of the hot water kettle in the room to get a cup of coffee. In other words, instant coffee or nothing at all. During several visits, I was in the lobby during morning hours to deal with east coast work meetings via video conference. I would guess that 15-20 guests per 90 minutes, every single day, asked about coffee. Here's a bold solution: put coffee in the lobby like every low-end, mid-scale and luxury hotel on earth. You can do it. ||BTW - the visiting football team had a fully catered breakfast spread, so we know they have the infrastructure to produce coffee.||The fact that this incredibly easy thing to solve has been ignored sends a major warning flag. Even in the staged opening, there are clear messages that corners are being cut. ||Every morning, the trash cans in the lobby restroom were overflowing with paper towels, beer cans and trash from the previous night. Clearly, no one had tended to them for at least 12 hours. ||The makeshift gym (while the permanent one is apparently finished) has no trash can at all, and several days of trash piled up. On the first visit, there were no towels or sanitizing wipes for the equipment. On the most recent ones, there were a handful of washcloths. Not great, but a step in the right direction. ||Of nine nights spent over three visits, housekeeping missed two days with no explanation or apologies.||They've done good work and are on their way to completing a nice modernization and upgrade. I hope that they spend just a little time walking through the guest experience from the perspective of an actual visitor to avoid blind spots that are glaring and are disproportionately impactful on one's desire to revisit and recommend.
