I was told on the phone that the room was small, and because our plan was to attend the Mt Rushmore evening ceremony and only stay one night, I decided that should be fine for the time we were in the room. It was very small, and oddly arranged. The TV and Frig were on a dresser on the side of the bed. That would have worked if their positions were changed since to see TV, it was necessary to lay on the bed and look straight across to the left. That only worked for one person, so I sat on the one wooden chair. The microwave had it's own stand on the opposite side of the room. It would have been better to have that included somehow with the frig and TV, and clear some floor space. My husband and I had to switch bed sides for sleeping, since he felt like he was going to roll out onto the floor on his side. He felt the springs were not supporting him. I did not realize there would be stairs, and we managed them fine, but others may not. ||The plus was easy parking in front, easy access when given the room number and electronic lock combination over the phone, and being able to walk to restaurants. There was juice, muffins, and scones provided in the lobby for breakfast. The lobby was interesting with a collection of items for sale. It was interesting to learn the building originally was a fire station, and that probably had something to do with the room configuration.||Perhaps other bigger rooms may have worked better for us.

This hotel was truly awesome. The rooms are large and easily accommodated the three of us, four people could stay and be really comfortable too. The owners are such lovely people, everything everyone has said in their reviews is true. They couldn’t do enough for us. With lots of recommendations on the local area and a wonderful way to start the day with coffee, a chat and a laugh. Meeting their niece Olivia was a delight, what an amazing young lady she is and a morning starting with a Frankie greeting ( their gorgeous ten month old puppy) was the absolute best. Left feeling like we were leaving old friends behind. All of whom have genuine invites to visit us in London if they ever come to the UK. We still have so much to see after five nights there so will be back,

BEWARE! DO NOT STAY HERE. I would give them a zero star, rooms located on the street, too much traffic noice, no parking, we had park on the street. Room smelled like Urine. Paid $300 a night for this dump. You can’t book directly, third party reservations company charged $83 extra for cancellation protection without my consent and no refund received. Bugs crawling in the bathroom. Cheap mattress and sheets. Lobby closes before noon, had a dog, smelled awful. No security lock from inside. No closet, no iron. Please see all pictures.

We had a great experience staying at the Battle Creek Lodge during our visit to see Mount Rushmore. You can tell upon arrival that the owners take pride in their property. The room was clean, especially the very comfortable bed, and nicely appointed. Tammy was very helpful in providing guidance to area attractions and helpful tips. My family and I will certainly stay again the next time we visit the area.

I really enjoyed my stay. The location (quiet) is very good. The room has everything you need. The building is older but well maintained. The sign on the office door says they are open but it was locked when I tried. It was a Sunday afternoon. Not sure, maybe you have to call a number but it was not that important. I have not stayed at a lodge or bed and breakfast before. I guess it is impossible for someone to be up 24x7. I would recommend this lodge for sure.

Although we live in South East SD, we go to The Hills every summer--at least ten times. If you don't stay with the wonderful folks at the Battle Creek Lodge, you are doing it wrong. Outstanding spot--they are always making improvements! Excellent proprietors--they are truly a joy. If I was leaving for The Hills tomorrow I'd call them right away!

This place is awesome!! A homey feel that you don't find at other places. Also very clean and a great value. Tammy and Cine are so friendly, accommodating, and give great advice on the area's attractions. Cine always put out a great breakfast of cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, and good coffee. We didn't just stay at a place, we made friends. A hidden gem. Would definitely stay at Battle Creek Lodge when in that area.

Absolutely amazing place to stay! Tammy & Cine we're so nice and made our stay perfect. The rooms were nice, clean and cozy. Had a bottle toss game outside our room that the kids played. Although we didn't get a chance to use the fire pit on the patio it was very nice hang out area. Delicious giant cinnamon rolls for breakfast along with fresh cut fruit and coffee for us and chocolate milk for the kids. Our hosts were so friendly and talked and hung out with the kids and even gave them some cool rose quartz stones as a souvenir. We also bought some super cute hoodies they had. The only disappointment I had was that we couldn't stay longer! If your visiting this area definitely stay here for a more personal touch than a plain hotel.
