Hope Hall Hotel

I recently visited Hopehall in Matheran after more than four years, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much has changed since my last visit. Maria has clearly put in a lot of effort to enhance the property, making it much more comfortable and inviting. The antique touches she’s incorporated add a unique charm, making the place even more beautiful. It's a delightful blend of comfort and character, and the improvements are truly commendable.

I had booked Hope Hall to conduct a Writer's retreat at Hope Hall Matheran. I wanted something quiet where the participants could write in peace. I found all of this and more here. The owner went out of her way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Thank you so much Maria Vaz for making this a memorable experience 💖

What a horrible lady. I waited for her for 10 mins while there was no one at the desk. Comes out in very bad mood saying -"Single people are not allowed, please go". Could have talked better. Why not write these things on your website or public forums before someone reaches. I understand they may have had some trouble with single people. Just a few years ago, it was difficult in India to get accommodation for couples. Today it is difficult as a single person. Dunno what cultural taste will be in coming years -- mostly dictated by local tastes. All those photos about "hospitality" at the front desk and then she comes out and says "please go". Probably never learnt to talk to people. Sure lady, I'll go and tell my friends to never visit your horrible home. Edit ahead post the owners response, since that's the only way Google will let me respond 1. I did wait for 10 mins. I don't have to clarify myself further on that. I'll let the reader be the judge of the truth, won't need a certificate from you. 2. Yours was the first place I visited and I did not have to deal with rude staff yet, thankfully. 3. Thank you for rating me 0. I smile when I greet and meet people. Maybe common courtesies are lost on you. 4. Calling you a "lady" is not to distinguish between man vs woman. That is just a way to address the person I came across. If it was a man who talked to me the same way- I would have called him a gentleman. All my ratings are justified Rooms- small and doors are gathering rust Service - front desk staff's behaviour is part of service. Maybe hire someone if you are not happy humored for a life in hospitality Location- Parking is a trouble and the road is unpaved. I have travelled enough to know people myself. Trust me, the reader of the review will also understand. Cheers!!

I don't know how much can I express by words but staying in Hope Hall is one of the correct decision I have ever made. It is situated in Matheran (nearby Matheran main market) offers a experience that you can't buy with money. If you want to stay together with nature you must visit this place. Last but not least Maria ma'am, for whom we never feel like guest for a moment. It felt she is closest relative of us. Everything written here is based on my personal experience. It may varies person to person. But I'd suggest to stay there once if you are visiting Matheran. - Pritam

Centrally located Vintage property Easy on the pocket A sweet and friendly host These are the top four reasons why you should stay in Hope Hall the next time you visit Matheran. I stayed here for two nights and I'm sure you're going to enjoy staying here. I know, it's still tough to make the decision after reading a few reviews. So, here's a checklist that's going to help you with that - 1. Are you a budget traveler? 2. Do you want to experience the rustic charm of Matheran? 3. Location matters to you - you prefer privacy but don't want to stay too far from the market? 4. You enjoy the homestay experience? 5. You're OK if 1-2 modern amenities are missing in the room? 6. You don't have problems with dogs? If you said "Yes" to at least 3 of the above questions, you should stay in Hope Hall. Period. I hope this helps.

Good rooms with a beautiful, quiet and peaceful atmosphere to unwind from our daily fast paced lives! The rooms are surrounded by well maintained plants. Since the hotel is a heritage building, the rooms have a unique feel of olden times that I personally really loved! Miss Maria is a very sweet and friendly. This review is a little late but thank you so much Aunty for your caring service during our stay! 😁

Looking for a calm and unwinding spot, this is it. It’s not fancy and hi tech but the place brings you at ease. You can relax by the porch and enjoy nature(if u are into nature). You’re welcomed by a sweet lady, Maria. She will provide with basic amenities. Please note - the rooms have multiple bed’s depending on the amount of people. Keep a lookout for monkeys . They steal everything. The furry friends are the sweetest. Enjoy!!

So we happened to check in hope hall hotel, they stay was quiet superb. Calm and Silent and close by to the nature as I specifically look out for whenever I travel forest like location. The owner Maria was sweet and gave us a pleasant gesture all the time we happened to speak to her. The rooms were quiet spacious and clean. We were a couple who had check in...please note the agents out there won't recommend this hotel as she doesn't entertain them. You can check with her directly or through the numbers given on her website. Couldn't meet the owner for a bye while check out as it was her rest time. Would be happy to see her soon the next time we visit Matheran. Chaos... Regards Ankit
