NillThis is a really cool place! I stayed here with my fiancé, and we had an amazing time. The room was clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect for exploring the area. The check-in process was smooth, and everything was just as described. I personally love this area in the picture as well and would definitely stay again!

NillI booked through a third party. Overall, it was okay. The room was as pictured although a bit grungy. Some of the other more critical reviews feel like a decent description. As a heads up, when I stayed, the first floor smelled intensely of air freshener and the third floor smelled intensely of cigarette smoke. The rooms have vents that go to the hallways so the scent seeps inside. If you aren’t sensitive to smoke or fragrance and want a bargain, then it’s an okay place to be. The listing I booked through didn’t have any reviews at the time and I wish I was able to look these up before I made my booking, otherwise I would’ve likely chosen somewhere else.

NillCurrently staying. Despite poor quality we will be staying the night until our flight leaves tomorrow. I'm within grave of not being the person to have booked the room, but am asking side them. Our first night the staff had come in announced to re-install wifi for better coverage. Cool love that. The second morning around 930 the staff had knocked and attempted opening the door without consent to check wifi connection. Myself and the other first were in the midst of getting ourselves ready for the day. Half clothed, unaware etc. The night of we no longer have wifi, and are trying to make contact for over 2 hours with any sort of staff. Not only for any sort of wifi, but any general communication. The building is nice, but I worry about my privacy at every second.

NillYikes. I booked through airbnb. My room had no heat and the electrical was sparking. Room was on the 3rd floor without an elevator. Getting my luggage up the stairs was ridiculous. No parking. Loading zone on extreme slope so my luggage started to roll down the hill. Scary people all around exterior of the building. No place to store clothes. Poor building maintenance. I only stayed 1 night out of 7 because I was cold and scared. Host and airbnb are refusing full refund. I have reported dangerous electrical to the fire marshal and am disputing the room charge through visa. DO NOT STAY HERE

NillMy wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay. John is an amazing host and provided clear instructions for checking in. He also messaged us after our first night to make sure we had everything we needed. The apartment itself was meticulously clean and quite comfortable. Aside from being a great value, the best part about the apartment is its location. Since we took day trips to different parts of the city, it was nice to stay in a centralized location. We either walked or took public transportation to get everywhere we wanted to go. Bus stops, trolley stations, and ferry terminals are only a few blocks walk from the apartment. There are tons of restaurants and entertainment options within walking distance as well. We would definitely stay at John's place again when we next visit San Diego!

NillIf you're looking for downtown access with walking options, it's a good location. There are a lot of unhoused individuals living on the sidewalks in the immediate area, but that's not John's fault. John and staff were very quick to take a look at my hot water; turns out it just takes a really long time to heat up. I stayed in the tiki room and it had everything I needed for my short stay. Some constructive criticism: there's mold on the shower ceiling; there's limited lighting inside the actual shower (lighter shower curtains might help); the bathroom barn door doesn't provide adequate privacy; and the mini blinds are broken and need to be replaced. Also, idk what was going on in the room above me, but it sounded like people were wearing concrete shoes and dropping bowling balls. Admittedly, I didn't mention the sound disturbances while I was there, but future guests might have issues. I checked into a clean room with clean linens. The room and building as a whole have a quirky and comfy feel.

NillThe system of the building reminds me of those classic rent-a-room beach getaways. While the bathrooms are shared on each floor, they are pristine and airy, very well kept. The personal room amenities, like the sink, the fridge, and the microwave, were great. The TV was easy to use. The furniture and linens were clean and comfortable. The room was spacious with lots of light. I especially appreciated the AC. John is friendly and helpful, someone easy to communicate with, and gave me the sense that my stay matters. My dogs enjoyed being there as well. Walking distance to the Gaslamp area was awesome. While the building is off a busy street, the room was quiet and peaceful. I'm happy to recommend booking this room.

NillThis place is really awful. It has dirty, tiny rooms and is run by people who have no idea what’s going on in the building. One thing they are good at, in my case John was very responsive. I would add that this property is not ADA compliant, and since it operates as a hotel, I’m sure they’re legally operating. I used Air BnB to rent this place. I checked in right on time on – 7/15. I followed instructions to my room. On entering, I found the room had not been cleaned. The bed was unmade, there were used towels on the floor, ½ empty water bottles. There was a coffee cup with mold in it, not sure how long that had been there. I messaged John and got a fast response. I was directed to a new room a couple of doors down. That room was also dirty. Wet towel hanging, unmade bed, ½ full water bottles, garbage in the in the can. It felt like the room as still occupied from the books on the nightstand. Another text, another room. The third room was clean. But, the sheets were old and pilling, the pillowcases were discolored, shower walls had soap scum on them. The AC barely kept up with the temperature, paint was chipped. The common areas, especially the carpets, were stained and threadbare. On my last morning, I texted John on my way out at 7:00 AM that I was checking out. I received an acknowledgment. A few hours later, while I was at the airport, I received a note that I hadn’t checked out. I was told my stuff was still in the room and that I needed to get out of the room. I responded that I was out. Several hours later, I got another nastygram from John that his tech told him I was still in the room. I assume the “tech” didn’t know what room I had moved to. Look over other reviews here, they appear to have a lot of paid astroturf reviews that way to flowery i,e, fake for the reality of the place. My strong recommendation for this place is to keep looking.
