Hotel Alex Johnson Rapid City, Curio Collection by Hilton

Y’all! This place has promise.||I drive through Rapid City from time to time and it’s a good stopping place for us. I have stayed away from the AJay because of the horrible reviews. But this time I decided to give it a go.||It is doable!||We stayed in a junior suite which is a big corner room that has been updated. Really comfortable! Real feather pillows even! The sheets were soft and all cotton but I’d love to see a real feather duvet next time. The towels in the bath were nice, too. The hallways have also been refreshed. So that all exceeded my expectations!||I was prepared for a surly staff but Cynthia at the front desk was delightful, if not a little overly trying. They wanted us to love the place, which I appreciate.||Yeah, the valet isn’t great, but they are trying, y’all. That matched my low expectations but at least we got our car back. And the front parking spaces are great for loading - no mobbed porte-cochere area to navigate.||But the best was the outdoor rooftop patio. Y’all! Decent cocktails, kind staff, and hot fires so we could be out there in the 21 degrees with no coat. We thought it was so fun after a day of driving.||If you are well traveled, love history and discovery, and like a city vibe, give this place a shot.||We will be back!

5 Stars across the board! From the time we showed up, till we checked out, we enjoyed our entire stay at the hotel! It was a special night for us, our waitress, Jamie at The Juniper made sure to accommodate our special requests as well and gave us the best seat in the house <3 very romantic! The bartenders, Benji & the young lady with glasses were absolutely fun to talk too and Benji named a drink after me! It was definitely a great place to get engaged at! We will be returning soon for the paranormal experience!! Ty to all the staff ❤️

We had an awesome short stay! Big double rooms for our 4 kids, centrally located, and excellent staff. Mason at the front desk went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of (including helping replace a spilled coffee). Definitely will come again!

Don’t stay anywhere else unless you have to. Night shift responds to *even* text messages within mere moments… Had a noise complaint. Daniel was on it within two minutes. Aside from that awesome response the rooms are a 10/10. The hotel is every bit as elegant as I recall since coming here as a kid. Now with children of my own, the wife and I both appreciate the lounges and ambience even more than I would have expected.

Front desk said to leave my truck in front of the building with the flashers on and they would valet park it. Came down the next morning to find my truck sitting in the same place I parked it unlocked with a dead battery. Left a message for the GM to call and that didn’t happen, sent an email no response. Hotel biz must be good.

Historic and very nice rooms. The rooftop club has great meals and drinks. Room 812 is supposed to be haunted, but I was on the 7th floor and had no issues with spiritual guests. Many dignitaries have stayed here. Their gift shop is special and has many historic and cultural items. Valet parking is expensive. &28.95

Good location in downtown Rapid City. The price was right; it was a good value and that is the reason for the four stars. Cool historic building and great lobby. Rooms are dated and tired, but clean; and the mattress was bad. Valet was one person which caused a delay in retrieving cars. Staff was fine, but not overly friendly.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid City while visiting our son, and it was a wonderful experience overall. The historic charm of the hotel, combined with modern amenities, made our stay comfortable and memorable. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and our room was cozy and clean. The location allowed us to explore the downtown attractions easily. The only downside was our difficulty with parking. However, we would still highly recommend this hotel!
